Week 3 Blog Forum Questions

Two possible subjects that I could use for my Environmental Portrait could be Susan Peterson-Aynes, or perhaps Wesley Davis. Susan is a Physical Education teacher here at Linn Benton. The best environment to shoot her in would be her classroom. For props, I might use an apple or her white board. Wesley is a student here at LBCC. His passion is photography and film. The best environment to shoot him in would probably be on campus or somewhere outside. Some props that would work for the shots would be a camera, computer, or a pencil and paper. I could contact them both by simply going and talking to them in person.

My favorite photo I've taken so far for this class would probably one of most recent photos, which would be the medium shot of the featured pool game. I like it the most because of the great facial expression the subjects are showing.

My worst photo I've taken so far for this class would probably be the overall view of the JW Booth on campus, not because of the angle, but because that the subjects aren't interacting with anyone. It's not an exciting shot.

To improve a lot of my photos, I need to understand the camera I'm using better. I need a better concept on how I should use flash, the shutter speed, and etc.

Week 10: Blog Forum

1) I think this photo of a woman standing in front of the capitol building would be my favorite photo I shot this term. 2) This photo stands out to me because the surroundings and environment are so nicely placed and is correspondent to the subject, especially with the excellent lighting of midday. 3) It reflects what I have learned in this journalism class because it captures an entire scene, which I realized is the whole point of photography. 4) Throughout this term, I've learned that to take a good photo, one needs to to get the best perspective of what really shows what is going on. With this in mind, whenever I try to shoot some photos, I know now to take several different photos from several different angels. Ruby LaToya Frazier

Ruby LaToya Frazier is an award-winning photographer. She was born in Braddock, Pennsylvania in 1982. Braddock is a rather run-down and poverty-stricken town. Braddock had a major influence on the kind of subjects she wanted to photograph. Frazier works in photography, video, and performance to show visual representations of industrialism, rustbelt revitalizations, environmental justice, healthcare inequality, and communal history. She shoots photos that open people's eyes of what is really going on in the world. However, she is currently an Associates Professor of Photography at the School of Art Institute of Chicago, though she has previously held other academic and cultural positions, including positions at Yale University of Art. Ruby LaToya Frazier has several pieces of popular and recognized work. Some of her most famous collections include The Notion of Family, Gray Area, and Flint Lives Matter.
