In the novel, It's What I do: A Photographer's Life of Love and War  by Lynsey Addario, award-winning photojournalist, Lynsey Addario, tells and relives her life story of how she accomplished becoming such a huge name in photography and all of the struggles that went along with doing so. She primarily covers war conflicts; so of course, there were bound to be more than just a few difficulties in her career. Though, Addario always has stood by her decision to be a photojournalist, and to be one that covers serious subjects in order for these important situations to receive attention. Lynsey Addario has always felt a constant sense of obligation to photographing the world around her, even when she was in situations that involved risking her life. In a sense, this strong urge to constantly jeopardize her life in order to simply take pictures could be considered selfish with regards to her family and loved ones who remain in a state of wonder of her safety and health whenever she

1) I think this photo of a woman standing in front of the capitol building would be my favorite photo I shot this term. 2) This photo stands out to me because the surroundings and environment are so nicely placed and is correspondent to the subject, especially with the excellent lighting of midday. 3) It reflects what I have learned in this journalism class because it captures an entire scene, which I realized is the whole point of photography. 4) Throughout this term, I've learned that to take a good photo, one needs to to get the best perspective of what really shows what is going on. With this in mind, whenever I try to shoot some photos, I know now to take several different photos from several different angels. Ruby LaToya Frazier is an award-winning photographer. She was born in Braddock, Pennsylvania in 1982. Braddock is a rather run-down and poverty-stricken town. Braddock had a major influence on the kind of subjects she wanted to photograph. Frazier works in photography, video, and performance to show visual representations of industrialism, rustbelt revitalizations, environmental justice, healthcare inequality, and communal history. She shoots photos that open people's eyes of what is really going on in the world. However, she is currently an Associates Professor of Photography at the School of Art Institute of Chicago, though she has previously held other academic and cultural positions, including positions at Yale University of Art. Ruby LaToya Frazier has several pieces of popular and recognized work. Some of her most famous collections include The Notion of Family, Gray Area, and Flint Lives Matter. I wasn't there for our guest, Karl Maasdam, but doing some research and observing some of his sport shoots, I was able to pick up on a couple techniques that he uses to capture a great sports shot. I noticed that his photos captured a great amount of emotion, whether it was during the action or celebrating the action. One could also get a sense of what was going on at the time, like if it was during the actual game or it was just a celebration; he is able to capture great perspectives of everything, not just the subject. I'd assume some tips from him would be constantly shooting photos, no matter the time, and for one to also gather multiple perspectives; shoot pictures from everywhere and anywhere.

I'm going to be shooting this assignment in Sweet Home because that is where I currently live. A portrait idea that I have is one of my buddies at either Sankey Park or North Side Park.  A landscape idea I have is Foster Lake because it's one of the most popular destinations in Sweet Home. An activity photo idea I have is at the local, old-fashioned A&W, with people ordering and eating food. The most difficult photo to shoot, I assume, would be the activity photo, because I think I would want an overall shot of the whole restaurant, but that'll be rather difficult because of A&W's location.
